On a Diet and Hungry? Rejoice!

If you’ve been on a diet for awhile, and all of the sudden you are hungry, that just may be a very good sign that you’re getting ready to drop more weight.

Now I’m not talking about being hungry at the start of a diet (although it may still hold true).  I’m talking about if you’ve been on a diet for awhile and have been fine.  All of the sudden one day you are ragingly hungry, for no real reason.  You’ve been following the same diet as always, and you haven’t had any outside influences.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

My husband and I are both on NutriSystem, and although most of the time were are fine with the foods, there are days that we are hungry.  Really, really hungry.  And as long as we don’t seriously go off our diets, those tend to be the weeks we drop the most weight.

When we do get those almost uncontrollable hunger pangs, we’ve decided to allow 1 piece of string cheese.  Or in David’s case, maybe an extra yogurt.  The 80 calories in the string cheese (or 140 in the yogurt) won’t amount to much in the course of a diet and it prevents us from doing worse.  The protein in the cheese or yogurt help keep our blood sugar stable, and usually calms the worst of the hunger.

So if your on a diet and all of the sudden you feel like you could eat an elephant, be glad.  Your body may be signaling a weight drop, as long as you don’t go off the diet.
