Do You Diet on Weekends?

It’s Friday afternoon, so here’s the question:  do you diet (or at least try to diet) on the weekends?  Or do you just say he heck with it and just try not to go too far overboard when the temptations come your way?

There are people on both sides of the fence here.  Those who say live a little on the weekends and those who say stay on your diet at all costs.  There are good arguments to each side, but what matters most is what’s best for you.

Let’s say that the only thing keeping you losing weight is by avoiding temptation altogether.  One sliver of cake and you’d like to eat the whole thing.  One small scoop of ice cream sends you back until a pint has disappeared.  Been there, know how it feels.

If this is you, do yourself a favor and stay on it during the weekends.  Unless you’ve built up some discipline, don’t let yourself be tempted.  It’s easier to stay on a diet than it is to climb back on the wagon after you’ve tumbled off.  (That’s a whole post by itself.)

On the other hand — if you’ve gotten to the point where you feel comfortable with eating like you were maintaining your weight (instead of losing it), then a weekend “vacation” may be right for you.  So maybe you eat a little more on the weekends, but not so as to gain weight.

Now keep in mind that I’m not saying to blow your diet on the weekends — just that an extra 300 or 400 calories won’t hurt IF you can control yourself.

Me, I do both, depending on my situation.  If I’m feeling down about my diet, I’ll tend to stay on the straight and narrow on the weekend; otherwise I might just eat my way through to Monday morning!

If I am feeling good about my diet, I may add some calories in.  Maybe go out to dinner one night, although eat only half my entree.  Or snack a little on Sunday afternoon with some popcorn.

I have a long, long way to go yet, and I don’t know if I could diet 24/7 for the next year or so that it’s going to take to get these pounds off.  Which begs the question — how are we supposed to migrate to eating normally?

Guess that one will be a whole post by itself, too.

But it’s the weekend.  Only you know what’s right for your strength of will and mindset.  Be safe, be well and “weigh to go”!
