Yes, It’s Possible to Lose Weight After 40
The whole point of this blog and website is the special problems we face losing weight after 40. And/or losing weight when you’re at least 40 pounds overweight. Both are daunting prospects.
It’s tempting to think that things won’t change — you’ll always be overweight. You should accept your body as it is. Hmmm. Somehow that doesn’t ring totally true to me.
Yes, you should accept that you are overweight for now. And that it might take months or even years to take the weight off, depending on how much you need to lose. But accepting that you are fat (I’m not going to be politically correct here) doesn’t mean you have to stay that way!
Losing weight is hard, even when the media makes it seem so very easy. We’ve all seen the commercials for "take this pill, don’t change the way you eat and still lose weight". In the vast majority of cases, this simply isn’t true. You must change the way you eat.
What’s that old definition of insanity? Doing the same thing the same way over and over and expecting a different outcome.
Not to say we’re crazy of we’re overweight — far from it. Only that we can’t expect to keep eating the way we do and still lose weight, even if taking some "magic bullet" pill or potion.
I’ll do a post on Alli at some point — the "magic pill" approved by the FDA, but even it’s not really magic. You still need to change your ways…or prepare for the most unpleasant consequences.
Losing weight is tough, and made harder because our metabolism has slowed down with age. The 10 pounds you used to be able to drop in 2 or 3 weeks now takes twice or even three times as long. But you can lose weight. You have to want to, really badly, in order to do it successfully though.
