And the Winner is…Liposuction?
So what was the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery in the United States in 2007? The envelope please…
…and the winner is (drumroll)…liposuction!
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released their annual today, regarding the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures for 2007. They estimate that were about half a million liposuctions done last year. There aren’t any official estimates on how many pounds that correlates to, but a reasonable guess is 5 million pounds of fat siphoned off.
The next most popular weight-related plastic procedure is the abdominoplasty (AKA a tummy tuck).
Other popular cosmetic surgical procedures for 2007 include an eyelid lift, breast augmentation and breast reduction.
Liposuction isn’t really a weight-loss procedure, unlike gastric bypass or lap band surgery. Liposuction is generally only performed on the last few pounds that don’t want to move, even with diet and exercise.
